Ms Massey, 87, said she played lawn bowls for more than 50 years after joining the then Yarraville Seddon Bowls Club in 1953.

The Yarraville resident said she loved the atmosphere, meeting new people and being out in the fresh air. Ms Massey, whose name appears prominently on the honour boards at club, Victorian, Australian and world bowls championship levels, said the keys to success were patience and practice.
She said you needed to ‘‘concentrate fully’’ while out on the green.

‘‘You can’t afford to be thinking of other things,’’ she said.

The induction ceremony was held in Adelaide on December 7 but Ms Massey celebrated from home
