GDBA Div 1 - Big changes in ladder order 2/12

Tonia Doyle, Geelong West, Sunday, 2 December 2007

The weekends round of Pennant for the Geelong and District signalled the half-way stage of the 18 round Competition.
Torquay broke clear of the pack once again but with wins to Bareena, Portarlington, Highton and Drysdale the ladder make-up changed complexity dramatically.

Torquay blew Geelong RSL of second place with its clean sweep by a massive 70 shots.
While Peter Barnes and Des Bruhn contributed with a combined 33 shot defeat of Gary Hood and Jim Fitzpatrick. Gary Banks' rink did the most damage over last weeks biggest winning rink skippered by Ian Walsh.

Bareena recomposed itself after last weeks loss against Geelong RSL to annihilate Leopold by 94 shots.
Taking all before it on it's slick synthetic surface, Ben Wilding's 14 shot defeat of John McMahon was the smallest win for the day.
While Brannon Shelton continued his good fortunes to get home by 18 shots.
Tony Filipovic and Ron Marell combined to be Leopold's worst nightmare getting up by 31 shots apiece.

Drysdale were lucky to escape with one win and a tie to wrap up Geelong West by three shots in the close one for the round.
Putting itself back on track and in contention for a top four placing Drysdale lifted it's stance from seventh to fifth place.

Highton climbed back into second place on the ladder after it's defeat of Queenscliff by 23 shots.
Alan Dickson found the winners circle again to be the best performed.
While the former Geelong RSL player Mick Hughey proved worthy of his debut on the mat covering for Ray Wilkinson.

Portarlington found it's way back into third place after surviving by eight shot's over Ocean Grove.
Greg Ash covered the 11 shot deficit lost by Charlie Sproal and Ivan Gribble and Leo McNamara did the rest over Ken Brown.

Fortunately Ocean Grove who fell out of the top four for only the second time this season earned four points to keep within seven of next weeks opposition Geelong RSL.

Ladder: Torquay 118, Highton 99, Portarlington 87, Geelong RSL 86, Drysdale 83, Ocean Grove 79, Bareena 78, Leopold 70, Geelong West 60, Queenscliff 48.

Next Week:
Bareena v Torquay, Leopold v Geelong West, Ocean Grove v Geelong RSL, Drysdale v Queenscliff, Highton v Portarlington
